I honestly haven't had any new food storage containers in nearly 10 years. I am absolutely ecstatic about this set! I love how easy they close, how easy they are to store, and I love the sizes! When I use to shop for storage containers years ago, they didn't have the side latches. Just put on the lid and half of mine needed a large rubber band just to carry anywhere and still I was fortunate if they didn't spill! I am still trying to understand the center thing that removes excess air...I wouldn't feel very comfortable tossing it into a bag and going however, My Husband carried a bowl of milk and then a baggy of cereal with him. He set it directly in his passenger seat and while of course he had to keep it from sliding, all the milk managed to stay inside the bowl. I don't know if you are suppose to, but to reduce the air in the container, I just pressed down gently on the center valve piece and that seem to seal it up pretty well. I could hear the air leave the container with a loud squeak sound. These feel quite durable and a 100% upgrade in comparison to my old ones!
